Weekly Update January 31
The past two weeks have been filled with learning fun. Students competed in the Spelling Bee and in the Geography Bee. Congratulations to Carter Thompson who won the school Geo Bee and to Zoey Kesner who won the school Spelling Bee. We really enjoyed watching you compete!
In Reading, both classes are finished with Book Club tasks. The Response to Literature activity is a beautiful mobile with elements of the response essay and lots of creative artwork. Groups will complete these in class next week and share them with their classmates.
In Social Studies, both classes are creating projects. The rubrics for the Middle Ages project (6th grade) and the Immigration Project (5th grade) are both on the Google Classroom if students misplace their paper copy. The rubric is used as a checklist as we work. It makes organization and time management easier. It helps if parents can ask to see the work being done and help with discussing next steps.
In Genius Hour, students are working really hard. They have enjoyed guided reading groups, Ted Talks and tons of multiplication math games. I hope you get to see their work that came home this week. I am very impressed with the effort these students are making in my class at the end of their school day.
Thank you, Mrs. Little, for sending in 12 decks of cards for us to use. I’m not sure, but I think I hear everyone learning those tough facts faster!
I hope to see everyone at the Science Fair at our Power Campus tomorrow!
