Weekly Update January 6th
Hello! This is the new home for weekly news from our classroom. Check back often for a fun look at what we are learning. Infinite Campus is still the place for checking due dates, completed work and grades. Google classroom is where you’ll find documents for assignments. If your child is not proficient at accessing these online resources, they will be after this week!
The first week back from Winter Break is an exciting time. Students change so much in a few short months, and January always brings more mature students back to class. They grow more delightfully independent each day. We will focus on Goal Setting, Individual Learning Plans and personal accountability. Parents are invited to Student Parent Teacher Conferences during half days Wed, Thurs and Friday. Please encourage your child to attend.
View the sign up for conferences here.
5th and 6th Grade Gifted Reading and Social Studies: Students select new Book Club books, in strategic groups. We also use new and more challenging ways of discussing and responding to reading during class. Students will also study for and participate in the National Geography Bee classroom competition this week. Each student has a world atlas edition of Junior Scholastic to read an prepare in class and at home. Classroom winners will be announced on Friday, January 10th.
Genius Hour: Students will learn new Math Games, learn to listen and take notes on Ted Talks and work on their One Word Goal for 2020. Genius hour activities are designed to enrich academic skills for all; in one on one instruction and cooperative learning groups. Our focus this first few weeks will be to learn the behaviors necessary to work successfully in 7th hour. To this end, students will learn to access their Infinite Campus records to monitor their responsibility to turn in quality work.
I am really looking forward to supporting our students this semester.
