Weekly Update January 15

This week we are involved in the Spelling Bee, the Geo Bee and signing up for a field trip. All 5/6 students have been invited to a field trip to the Renaissance Festival. Permission slips are due January 17th.

In 5/6 Gifted Reading and Social Studies:

Students will read in Book Clubs and respond in their notebooks with their group members. We read for 20 minutes in class and students should be reading at home, too. Social Studies lessons are in the Junior Scholastic magazine, with a focus on the Central ideas and details to improve that reading skill as well. We have new Spelling lists and Spiral Reviews to complete. We are also working on the research paper for Science Fair/STEM fest.

In Genius Hour: 

Students are creating multiplication flash cards from their assessment on fast facts using a 12×12 multiplication chart. They will be learning many activities that reinforce their memorization of these facts. We will begin guided reading lessons this week also.
